Major Skips operates the largest licensed recycling plant in the North West. Not only is this plant used to complement our skip hire services but it also offers the services of a public weighbridge with fully licensed and skilled operators, a tipping facility, and a waste transfer station. We are currently in the process of developing and establishing a brand new 15,000 sq ft waste transfer station.

Waste Disposal Services

When we collect any waste, or when we any waste is delivered to us, it is sent to the waste transfer station where it undergoes thorough checking. This checking is done, in part, using machinery to remove the bigger and more obviously detected items. However, it is also visually checked, helping us improve our recycling rate – a rate that will be as high as 80% of all the waste we collect by the time the new waste transfer station is opened.

Whenever customers use our skip hire or any of our waste disposal services we do our utmost to ensure that anything that can be recycled is recycled. While other waste disposal firms and services may struggle to meet the 40% target set by the government we will be achieving approximately double this figure. The landfills in and around the Wirral, like those around the whole country, are nearing their limit and when this happens they will be closed leaving few waste disposal options.

Waste Transfer Station And Public Weighbridge

At the waste transfer station we also operate a public weighbridge where you can weigh any vehicle. Not only is the public weighbridge available for commercial use, but also for public use, should the need arise. Our licensed operators ensure that everything is completely in order before weighing your vehicle and have undergone governmental certification to ensure that they are fully capable of operating a public weighbridge.

Public Weighbridge Certification

Without the public weighbridge certificate it is illegal to charge for the use of a public weighbridge and you can only be sure of accurate details by using a weighbridge run by a certified operator. The certification ensures that the operator knows how to use the machinery, is able to balance it properly, and can take accurate readings and measurements.

Quick And Accurate

The public weighbridge enables us to quickly determine an extremely accurate measurement of how much waste you are carrying. Charges are then levied according to this final reading. While we can provide estimates of prices over the phone or in person, we cannot give an accurate assessment of cost until your vehicle has been weighed at the public weighbridge.

Recycling - Hardcore

The material that we are able to recycle may be used to create hardcore, or crushed brick. This can be graded, weighed, and delivered to any customers that require its use. Common uses of hardcore include highway construction and maintenance. The building and landscaping industry also has fairly regular call for this kind of material. Prices are determined according to a number of factors including distance of delivery, ease of delivery, quality of hardcore, and amount required.

Recycling – Mulch And Woodchip

Lumber can be heavily and beneficially recycled. At our waste disposal station we have one of only 5 lumber recycling machines of its type in the country. This machine enables us to work to very detailed specifications, providing customers with the exact type of mulch or woodchip required although we do need to know in advance. Common uses of recycled lumber include packaging, mulch, and animal bedding.

Recycling – Screened Soil

Because we have a Screening Warrior we are able to sift huge amounts of soil and many other types of material in a quick space of time. This machine can be used to separate and screen compost, top soil, demolition waste, and even iron ore. Recycled soil can be thoroughly screened so that you can be sure of the composition of that soil when you receive it. Landscaping and gardening are the most common uses of the soils created.

Public And Commercial Waste Disposal

All of our waste disposal services are offered for commercial and public use. We don't just offer tipping services and skip hire, although these are among the list of high quality services we do offer. The waste transfer and recycling station is one of the most advanced and largest of its kind in the country, and is the largest recycling plant in the area.
